Tigers Need Extras to Top Tigers
|
Clemson third baseman John Schafer had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Schafer was 3-6 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once, even as Auburn beat the Tigers, 4-3. Schafer was named the player of the game despite the loss. The win was Tony Rodriguez's in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Rich Tygart took the loss for Clemson. Losses have been few and far between for the Tigers so far this season. Their record drops to 6-3.
The Tigers got a big at-bat from right fielder Andy Laine. For the game, Laine went 1-3. In the top of the 12th, with the bases loaded, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 2nd hit of the season gave Auburn a 4-3 lead.
"Baseball is about momentum," said Laine, "and we feel we've got it in our favor after that win."
