Jayhawks Take Tight Tilt
|
Tom Scholten pitched well enough to win, but it was not to be. The South Illinois Salukis, despite Scholten's fine outing, dropped a 1-0 decision to the Kansas Jayhawks at Field of the Shield. Picking up the save was Chris Mayfield, his 2nd. The Jayhawks, now 5-2, have been on a roll in the early going.
Dylan Cooper went 1 for 4 for Kansas. The 21-year old first baseman had a key at-bat in the top of the fourth. With no one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, he broke a 0-0 tie with a run-scoring ground out off Tom Scholten. It was his 4th RBI of the season.
"I like the grit of this ballclub," Cooper said.
