Sun Devils Get Road Win, 6-1
|
The Arizona State Sun Devils got a stellar performance from pitcher Bill Rankin, who handcuffed the Oregon offense en route to a 6-1 win at Crunch Ballpark. Rankin, now 1-1, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 6, walking 1, and allowing no earned runs. Bob Clayton earned the save for Arizona State, his 2nd of the year.
Mike Gardner aided the Arizona State cause with a run-scoring walk in the top of the eighth. For the game, the shortstop was 1 for 3 with a walk.
"I felt we were ready to go," said Arizona State manager Tim Brown. "Our pregame was pretty good."
The loss lowers the Oregon record to 3-3.
