Rebels Hope Win Turns Around Slow Start
|
The Ole Miss Rebels got a stellar performance from pitcher Cody Clayton, who handcuffed the Cal State Fullerton offense en route to a 4-1 win at Ballpark of Wrightsville College. Clayton, now 1-0, was the winner. In 5.1 innings, he gave up 2 hits, while striking out 7, walking 1, and allowing no earned runs. Cory Hoffman earned the save for Ole Miss, his 1st of the year.
The game was on the line with two out in the top of the eighth inning, but Elijah Cooke didn't flinch. With runners on 1st and 2nd and Cal State Fullerton trailing 3-1, Cooke retired Zach Hicks to end the threat. "Nothing to it," said Cooke, with a wink.
The Rebels, with just their 2nd win so far in 2034, have yet to catch fire.
