The California Golden Bears got a stellar performance from pitcher Ernie Spencer, who handcuffed the UCLA offense en route to a 3-1 win at Prisoners Ballpark. Spencer, now 1-0, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 6, walking 2, and allowing 1 earned run. Donald Barron earned the save for California, his 4th of the year.

The Golden Bears got a big at-bat from shortstop Anthony Worthey. For the game, Worthey was 2-4 with a double. In the bottom of the second, with the bases loaded, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 5th hit of the season gave California a 2-1 lead.

"I like the roll we're on," said California manager Kevin Young.

California goes to 5-1 with the win.
