Golden Eagles Drop Cougars with Late Score
|
The South Mississippi Golden Eagles defeated the Houston Cougars, 7-6, at Ballpark of Storm Lake College. South Mississippi shortstop Nick Ashburn was named player of the game for his superb performance. He went 2-3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 3 times and drove in 2. South Mississippi, at 4-1, has sizzled in the early going.
Danny Stepp had a clutch at-bat with one out in the bottom of the eighth for the Golden Eagles. Coming up with runners on 2nd and 3rd and South Mississippi trailing 6-5, he hit a 2-run double.
"I like our moxie," said Golden Eagles manager Jason Metcalf.
