Tigers Nip Crimson Tide, 3-2
|
The Alabama Crimson Tide and Auburn Tigers provided some drama at Titans Ballpark.
Auburn beat Alabama on the strength of starter Gabe Gillis's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a 3-2 win. Gillis picked up the win for Auburn, going 6 innings. He gave up 1 run on 4 hits. He now sports a record of 1-0.
Chad Detering aided the Auburn cause with a solo home run in the top of the seventh. For the game, the left fielder was 1 for 3 with a home run.
Afterward, Tigers manager Victor Rafferty was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
Auburn, now 1-2, is off to a slow start.
