Strickland goes 3-for-4, Owls Move to 3-0
|
The Rice Owls defeated the Louisiana-Layfayette Ragin Cajuns, 14-10, at Field of the Dukes. Rice right fielder Shamel Strickland was named player of the game for his superb performance. He went 3-4 with a home run, 2 doubles, and a walk, while scoring 4 runs and driving in 3. Jimmy Pennington picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 2-0. Shawn Thompson was tagged with the loss. Bryan Drebin got credit for the save for Rice. It was his 1st of the year.
Strickland had a key at-bat for Rice early in the game. With runners on 1st and 2nd, he hit a 3-run home run. It was his 2nd home run of the season and gave Rice an early 3-0 lead.
"Getting a lot of baserunners and getting some timely hits, it's a good combination," said Strickland.
Rice, now 3-0, has gotten their season off to a good start.
