Buckeyes Stun Cavaliers, 5-3
|
The Virginia Cavaliers got a superb performance from pitcher Andrew Welborn. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Ohio State. The Buckeyes won the game, 5-3. In spite of the loss, Welborn was named the player of the game. He threw 6 innings of 5-hit ball. Ohio State reliever Preston Williams was the winner. His record is now 1-0. Jon Moore took the loss. The Buckeyes, now 2-0, have hit the ground running this season.
The Buckeyes got a big at-bat from pinch hitter Jonathan Bertone. For the game, Bertone went 1-1 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the top of the ninth, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 1st home run of the season gave Ohio State a 4-3 lead.
Bertone told a Ohio State Herald reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.
