Hops Turn Back So Cal, 6-4
|
The San Diego Hops knocked off the So Cal Republic, 6-4, at House of the Republic. Martín Árias, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason San Diego won. The center fielder was 4-5 with 2 triples and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Jim Phillips went 7 innings for San Diego to pick up the win. The left-hander was charged with 4 earned runs. He scattered 7 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 2. His record improves to 6-6. Their 26-40 record puts the Hops last in the Roberto Clemente League Christian Latulippe Division.
With San Diego leading 2-1 in the top of the second, Árias hit a forkball from Felipe Rodríguez for a 2-run triple. It was his 9th triple of the season and put the Hops ahead, 4-1.
"It was a solid team effort and we'll try to keep this momentum going," Árias told reporters after the game.
