Winfield got a terrific game from third baseman Alex Velez. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Bethesda, 7-4. Velez was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He was 2 for 3 with a home run and a triple. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. At 63-81, Bethesda is in last place in the Donnie Moore League Tommy Lasorda Division.

Had Omar Veliz not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Veliz hit a 2-run single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Hornets.

"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Veliz. "And not try to do too much."
