Multi-HR Day for Maynard as Vikings Overpower Saints, 9-6
|
The Victoria Vikings beat the St. Paul Saints, 9-6, at Saints Ballpark. The Vikings got a fine performance from first baseman Chris Maynard, who captured player of the game honors. He went 2-3 with 2 home runs, a walk, and was hit by a pitch, while adding 5 RBI and scoring twice. Timmo van Bladel got the win, improving to 7-8. He pitched 5 innings, giving up 5 hits and 5 runs, while striking out 6 and walking 7. Victoria is now 56-82, St. Paul 65-73.
Maynard had a big at-bat with the bases loaded in the top of the second inning, when he got hit by a pitch, driving in 1 run. The Vikings went on to win.
"I'm proud of the boys for pulling through," said Vikings manager Bernardo Moreno. "The wins don't come easy for this team, but everyone's got an extra jump in their step after a game like this."
