Victory Pushes Sting Record to 73-62
Houston starter Daniel Avery put a stranglehold on the St. Petersburg offense. The right-hander had complete command of his splitter in leading the Sting to a 3-1 win. Avery, now 9-6, was the winner. In 5 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 4, walking 0, and allowing 1 earned run. The Sting bumped their record to 73-62 with this latest triumph.

One pivotal at-bat came in the top of the second with one out. With runners on 1st and 2nd and the Pelicans trailing 2-0, Daniel Avery needed to make a quality pitch. He threw a 1-1 cutter to retire Octavio Barreto, who grounded out.
