Black Squirrels Roll to 9-2 Win Over Bush Wackers
|
Baylor Ballpark was the site for Donnie Moore League action featuring the Brisbane Bush Wackers and Tree City Black Squirrels.
The Tree City Black Squirrels beat the Brisbane Bush Wackers, 9-2, at Baylor Ballpark. The win was largely due to the efforts of catcher Mike Rocha, who captured player of the game honors. He went 3-4 with 3 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Doug Fox, the winner, improved to 3-3. He held the Bush Wackers to 2 earned runs on 5 hits over 5 innings, while striking out 7 and walking 2.
Jay Liburdi drew 1 walk for Tree City. The 22-year old first baseman had a key at-bat in the top of the sixth. With no one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 2-2 tie with a run-scoring walk off Luis Santana. It was his 80th walk of the season.
"I thought we played a nice game," Rocha told the Tree City Herald. "Good pitching, timely hitting, it was all there."
The 5th-place Black Squirrels are now 64-70, the Bush Wackers 64-70.
