|
The Nichols Gnats topped the St. Paul Saints, 7-5, with youngster Iain Willemse playing a key role. Willemse was 4-5 with a triple and 3 singles, while scoring 2 runs for the Gnats in the win. The winner was Nichols reliever Brett Johnston, now 1-0. The loser was Luis Carranza. Suzunosuke Date was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 12 of 14 save opportunities.
Luis Munoz aided the Nichols cause with a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth. For the game, the second baseman drove in one run.
"We'll grab a cold one tonight and go after another win tomorrow," Willemse said.
The Gnats improved to 49-82.
