St. Paul beat St. Petersburg at Saints Ballpark, eking out a 6-5 win. The win was due in large part to catcher Jim Bruce, who earned player of the game honors. Sadao Matsunaga was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 5 of 8 save opportunities. The 5th-place Saints improved to 62-67.

Bruce had a game-changing single in the bottom of the sixth. On a 0-1 cutter from Brian LaJeunesse, he banged a run-scoring single to left, giving the Saints a 6-5 lead. It was the 75th hit of the year for Bruce.

"Honestly, I'm not frustrated," said St. Petersburg manager Kurt Brumfield. "The effort was great."
