Fans who gathered at Woodland Park saw a good contest between the Houston Sting and Tree City Black Squirrels.
The Houston Sting faced a tough opponent in Tree City pitcher Sixto Árias, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Woodland Park by a final score of 1-0. Árias went 7.1 innings and allowed no earned runs. The win was credited to Yukiyasu Kawashima in relief. His record improves to 4-1. Sixto Árias took the loss. Sam Thomas converted his 9th save in 10 tries.
John Lary drove in one run for Houston. The 21-year old left fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the seventh. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 0-0 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Sixto Árias. It was his 4th RBI of the season.
"We take it day by day here," said Lary, "and today was a good one for us."
Houston now has a 4-game win streak.
