Francisco Valdez never let the River Chiefs get in a groove. The right-hander used his bread and butter, his fastball, to pitch the Cyclones to a 5-1 win. Dave Dyke converted his 1st save in 2 tries. The Cyclones bumped their record to 67-53 with this latest triumph.

Donald Warren aided the Coney Island cause with a run-scoring double in the bottom of the second. For the game, the third baseman went 1 for 5 with a double.

"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said Coney Island skipper Roger Fievet.
