The Victoria Vikings beat the Nichols Gnats, 10-5, at The Pond. The Vikings got a fine performance from designated hitter Reggie Volkmann, who captured player of the game honors. He went 1 for 4 with a home run and a walk, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Steve King got the save, his 1st in 3 chances.

Had Volkmann not come through in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have changed. Instead, with two down, Volkmann drew a walk, driving in 1 run. The Vikings never looked back after taking the 4-3 lead.

"It's nice to come out on top today," said Volkmann.

Victoria is 48-70 and Nichols, with the loss, 45-69.
