Rhinos Raise Rally Flag, Beat So Cal, 1-0
|
So Cal got a terrific performance from pitcher Felipe Rodríguez, but it wasn't enough to beat the Rubber City Rhinos. Rubber City won the House of the Republic contest, 1-0. Rodríguez was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 7 innings of shutout ball. Shinzo Sasaki got credit for the win, improving to 4-5. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.1 innings. Rubber City, at 28-33, sits in 4th place in the Roberto Clemente League Christian Latulippe Division.
Rubber City used the timely hitting of Oscar Costales to seize the win. The left fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Rhinos on top, 1-0. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"It was just a matter of executing," said Rubber City manager Larry Johnson.
