Eugene left-hander Elias Ortiz made an effective start against the Okanagan Lake Monsters at Prefontaine Park, leading his team to a 4-3 win. Tatsuji Kudo notched his 13th save in 17 chances. Eugene, at 51-49, occupies 4th place in the Donnie Moore League Tommy Lasorda Division.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the bottom of the sixth, with Eugene trailing 3-2, Cristián Vázquez was at the plate when Eugene scored 2 on an error. The miscue enabled the Emeralds to go in front, 4-3.
"We did enough to win," said Ortiz.
