Great Day for Bruce in Saints Win
|
It was a good time at Saints Ballpark, where fans came to watch the Kingwood Knights and St. Paul Saints get after it.
Jim Bruce knocked in 3 runs to help St. Paul beat Kingwood, 8-2. The first baseman collected 2 singles, 1 double, and 1 home run. Danny Mendez earned the win for St. Paul. He lasted 7.2 innings, allowing 1 earned run on 9 hits, while striking out 7. With the win, he raised his record to 7-9.
Bruce contributed a big hit, a 2-run home run, for St. Paul in the bottom of the third. With his team trailing 1-0, Bruce took a curveball from Jeff Bearce and stroked the home run to right. His 6th home run of the season allowed the Saints to leap in front, 2-1.
"It was a solid team effort and we'll try to keep this momentum going," Bruce told reporters after the game.
The 5th-place Saints improved to 47-50.
