The Houston Sting beat the Westside Road Warriors, 5-4, at Woodland Park. The Sting got a fine performance from designated hitter Eddie Fowler, who captured player of the game honors. He was 1 for 1 with 3 walks. Houston reliever Jeff Van Wormer got the win, raising his record to 4-5. Rick Childress was tagged with the loss. The Sting bumped their record to 50-42 with this latest triumph.
Benny Lipke was the walk-off hero for Houston. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Sting pinch hitter hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Houston manager Héctor Flores.
