St. Petersburg and Charleston duked it out at Franklin Mountains Field and the Pelicans came out victorious.

In a low-scoring tilt between the St. Petersburg Pelicans and the Charleston Panthers, José Carlos Ramírez was the difference-maker. The St. Petersburg right-hander earned player of the game honors in the 3-1 win. Ramírez, now 2-3, was the winner. In 7.2 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 7, walking 1, and allowing 1 earned run. Richard Ortiz earned his 1st save in 5 chances.

Had Jordan Vargas not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Vargas hit a 2-run home run. That made the score 3-1, in favor of the Pelicans.

"We put together a nice win," Ramírez said.

Even with the win, the Pelicans have a dismal 28-54 record.
