The Pelicans had to overcome a fine performance from Coney Island pitcher Francisco Trevino to grab a 4-3 win at Billy Mathews Field. Trevino allowed 2 earned runs over 5 innings. Even with the win, the Pelicans have a dismal 27-53 record.
Had Lou Schanowski not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Schanowski hit a run-scoring double. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Pelicans.
Schanowski told a St. Petersburg Bulletin reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.
