Saints Stymie Nichols, Take 4-1 Win
|
St. Paul Saints starter Teagan Cooper was in a groove as he led his team to a win over the Nichols Gnats, 4-1. The winning pitcher was Cooper, now 8-5. He tossed 6 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 6. St. Paul is 5th in the Lyman Bostock League Dick Williams Division with a record of 35-36.
Phil Skinner had a big run-scoring single for the Saints in the bottom of the fourth inning. With St. Paul leading 1-0 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from Leon Contreras and stroked the single to right. It was his 24th hit of the season, and more importantly, it put the Saints ahead, 2-0.
"We did a lot of things right," said Cooper.
