Loss Extends St. Petersburg Losing Streak
|
The Atlantic City Kings beat the St. Petersburg Pelicans, 9-5, at Billy Mathews Field. Atlantic City left fielder Ray Bailey earned player of the game honors with an outstanding performance. He went 2 for 2 with a home run and a double, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Tony Alfonso got credit for the win, improving to 1-0. He allowed 1 run on 3 hits in 5.1 innings. The losses continue to add up for St. Petersburg, which has now fallen 8 times in a row.
The Kings got a big at-bat from catcher Tom Sawyer. For the game, Sawyer was 2 for 5 with a double, while adding 2 RBI. In the top of the fourth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 3rd double of the season gave Atlantic City a 2-0 lead.
"We were able to get some things going offensively," said Bailey.
