Gnats Win at Winfield, 8-3
|
The Nichols Gnats defeated the Winfield Warriors, 8-3, in Lyman Bostock League action at The Barn, with Nichols designated hitter Dusty Martella named player of the game. Nichols reliever Ben Bower got the win, raising his record to 2-1. Sandy Ponce was tagged with the loss. The Gnats have now won 4 straight.
The Gnats got a big at-bat from third baseman Oscar Montelongo. For the game, Montelongo was 1 for 3 with a triple and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 2 times. In the top of the seventh, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring triple. His 2nd triple of the season gave Nichols a 4-3 lead.
"I was able to barrel up some pitches," said Martella.
