Cyclones Score Late to Upend River Chiefs, 3-2
|
The Chippewa River Chiefs got a superb performance from pitcher Cesar Prado, but the Coney Island Cyclones still won the game, 3-2. Prado was named the player of the game despite the loss. He threw 5 innings of shutout ball. Pedro Herrera got credit for the win, improving to 4-1. He allowed no runs on no hits in 1.1 innings. The Cyclones saw their record improve to 31-24.
The Cyclones got a big at-bat from first baseman Larry Zimmerman. For the game, Zimmerman was 1 for 4 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. In the top of the ninth, with runners on 2nd and 3rd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 10th home run of the season gave Coney Island a 3-2 lead.
"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" Coney Island manager Roger Fievet said.
