Mitchell Slugs Colonials to 4-3 Win
|
The New England Colonials trumped the Hawaii Islanders, 4-3, at Skellington Stadium. New England first baseman Jeff Mitchell was named player of the game for his performance. He hit 2 home runs. He scored 3 runs and drove in 2. The winner was New England reliever Lien-ying Mar, now 2-0. The loser was Norogumi Yokoyama. Juan Vázquez converted his 10th save in 12 tries.
Mitchell had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the sixth. On a 0-2 curveball from Norogumi Yokoyama, he banged a solo home run to left, giving the Colonials a 4-3 lead. It was the 12th home run of the year for Mitchell.
"Jeff is still learning," said Colonials manager Todd Belcher. "The sky's the limit for him."
The Colonials saw their record improve to 20-35.
