Emeralds Stymie Tree City, Take 6-1 Win
|
Tree City pitcher Joel Applegate gave the Emeralds all they could handle, but in the end, Eugene left Prefontaine Park with a 6-1 win. Applegate allowed 1 earned run on 4 hits over 5 innings. Fernando Guzmán got credit for the win, improving to 4-1. He allowed 1 run on 8 hits in 6 innings. Cody Mason locked down his 7th save.
The Emeralds got a big at-bat from shortstop Jose Macias. For the game, Macias went 1-3. In the bottom of the sixth, with a runner on 3rd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 36th hit of the season gave Eugene a 2-1 lead.
"We put it together today and came out with the win," Macias said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
The Black Squirrels, at 20-24, have lost 5 in a row.
