Princes Solve Emeralds, 6-4
|
The Bel Air Princes topped the Eugene Emeralds by the score of 6-4, with the biggest share of the credit going to right fielder Wayne Steiert. Steiert was 3 for 4 with a double and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for the Princes on the day. Enrique Santiago got the win, improving to 5-1. He worked 7 innings, giving up 3 runs on 7 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 4. Toru Saito, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 2nd save.
The Princes got a big at-bat from shortstop Felix Cruz. For the game, Cruz went 1 for 4 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the fifth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 2nd home run of the season gave Bel Air a 4-3 lead.
In comments to the Bel Air Today, Steiert admitted that he doesn't always push himself. "But the results," he said, "speak for themselves."
Bel Air is now 26-12, 3 games up in the Donnie Moore League Tommy Lasorda Division.
