Conditions were not ideal but Nichols and New Orleans were able to put their game in the books.
Despite a fine performance by center fielder Shigeaki Yoshida, the New Orleans Jedi Knights suffered a 4-3 loss to the Nichols Gnats. Yoshida was 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 runs. Wilson Robles got the win, improving to 3-3. He worked 8 innings, giving up 3 runs on 7 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 3. Takayuki Tominaga, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 2nd save.
Manny Angeles swatted a solo home run for Nichols in the top of the sixth. The second baseman went 2 for 4 for the game, including 1 home run and 1 double. He scored 2 runs and batted in 1.
In comments to the Nichols Herald, Angeles admitted that he doesn't always push himself. "But the results," he said, "speak for themselves."
Even with the win, the Gnats have a dismal 12-23 record.
