The Charleston Panthers faced a tough opponent in Chippewa pitcher Lorenzo Chavez, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Franklin Mountains Field by a final score of 4-3. Chavez went 7 innings and allowed no earned runs. Charleston reliever Tim Gresham picked up the win, upping his record to 5-0. Lorenzo Chavez absorbed the loss. Ronnie Kimble, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 6th save.
Charlie Knickle helped out the Charleston cause in the bottom of the first inning with a run-scoring single. For the game, the shortstop was 1 for 3.
"We'll enjoy this win," said Knickle. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."
Charleston is now 15-22, Chippewa 24-14.
