Pelicans Turn Back Taos, 9-7

The St. Petersburg Pelicans defeated the Taos Blizzard, 9-7, at Billy Mathews Field today. Leading the charge for St. Petersburg was center fielder Juan Mendez. He was 2 for 4 with a home run, while adding 5 RBI and scoring once. The Pelicans, now 13-23, know that wins in May count the same as wins in September.
Dan Stoner aided the St. Petersburg cause with a run-scoring walk in the bottom of the fifth. For the game, the catcher drew 2 walks in 4 plate appearances.
"We swung the bats good throughout the lineup," said St. Petersburg skipper Kurt Brumfield.
