The Eugene Emeralds got a sterling performance from pitcher Elias Ortiz, but the Sting still prevailed, 3-2. Ortiz was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He threw 6 innings allowing 1 run. Ricardo Jarquin, credited with the win, is now 1-0. He allowed 1 run on 1 hit in 3.2 innings. Jeff Van Wormer was called on to finish, recording his 8th save.
Bobby Borawski went 2 for 3 with 2 singles and a walk for Houston. The 22-year old catcher had a key at-bat in the top of the seventh. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 2-2 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Ángel Velázquez. It was his 5th RBI of the season.
"We made a couple of mistakes," said Eugene skipper Ricardo Martínez, "and it cost us."
Houston has now won 3 in a row.
