Beavers Raise Rally Flag, Beat Rubber City, 4-3
|
Rubber City pitcher James Thompson gave the Beavers all they could handle, but in the end, Portland left Waterfront Park with a 4-3 win. Thompson allowed 2 earned runs on 5 hits over 7.1 innings. Portland reliever Jian-guo Yang picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Shinzo Sasaki was saddled with the loss. Portland, now 5-0, has gotten their season off to a good start.
Luke Riviere was the walk-off hero for Portland. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Beavers third baseman hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
"If we keep winning the close games," Riviere said, "we'll be in good shape at the end."
