Emeralds Win at Charleston, 6-1
|
The Eugene Emeralds picked up a win at Franklin Mountains Field, knocking off the Charleston Panthers, 6-1. On the mound for Eugene was left-hander Elias Ortiz, who played a pivotal role in the win. Ortiz went 7.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 4 hits, walked 2, and struck out 8. His record improves to 3-2. The Panthers fall to 12-16 and continue to sputter in the early going.
In the top of the fifth inning, shortstop Jose Macias came through big-time for the Emeralds. With Eugene leading 2-1, he belted a 2-run home run.
Ortiz told a Eugene Observer reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.
