Vikings Prevail, 5-3, Over St. Paul
|
Victoria Vikings starter Tony Gutiérrez was locked-in. He led his team to a win over the St. Paul Saints, 5-3. Picking up the save was Andy Jones, his 8th. Victoria is off to a sluggish start, getting just their 9th win in 25 games.
Had Carlos Avendano not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Avendano hit a 2-run single. That made the score 4-2, in favor of the Vikings.
"I'm proud of the boys for pulling through," said Vikings manager Bernardo Moreno. "The wins don't come easy for this team, but everyone's got an extra jump in their step after a game like this."
