José López pitched well, but his team, the Chippewa River Chiefs, still dropped a 3-2 decision to the Nichols Gnats at The Pond. Nichols reliever Suzunosuke Date was the winner. His record is now 2-0. José López took the loss. Nichols is still hoping to get on a roll. The win is just their 8th in 20 games.
Nichols won the game in the bottom of the tenth inning. With two outs and José López on the mound for Chippewa, catcher Rodrigo Perez hit a dramatic solo home run, bringing Gnats fans to their feet.
"It was a solid team effort and we'll try to keep this momentum going," Perez told reporters after the game.
