The Kingwood Knights racked up a win at Stable Park, bumping off the Nichols Gnats, 2-1. Ruben Luna, who started for Kingwood, pitched effectively for his team. Luna picked up the win for Kingwood, going 6 innings. He gave up 1 run on 8 hits. He now sports a record of 2-1. Picking up the save was Toshio Kawabata, his 7th.
José Martínez had a big run-scoring single for the Knights in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Kingwood leading 1-0 and a runner on 3rd, he got a changeup from Diego Gomez and stroked the single to right. It was his 8th hit of the season, and more importantly, it put the Knights ahead, 2-0.
"I liked his command," said Kingwood manager Herb Good. "Ruben was throwing strikes."
The Gnats fall to 6-12 and continue their unimpressive start to the 2034 season.
