Vikings Use Late-Game Magic to Beat River Chiefs

The Victoria Vikings topped the Chippewa River Chiefs, 4-3, in Lyman Bostock League action at The Reservation. The player of the game was Victoria pitcher and Chatham-Kent, Canada native Shane Jacobs. The win was Jean-François Blot's in relief. His record improves to 1-1. Mark Luoto took the loss for Chippewa. Losses have been rare for the River Chiefs, who are now 13-5.
This game was not decided until late. With one out in the top of the ninth, Ernesto Santiago hit a sacrifice fly. The Vikings took the lead, 4-3.
"Baseball is about momentum," said Santiago, "and we feel we've got it in our favor after that win."
