5 Straight Wins for Cyclones
|
With shortstop Jess Burhoe leading the charge, the Coney Island Cyclones defeated the San Angelo Mustangs, 3-0, at Heartland Kettlecorn Stadium. Burhoe, who is tied for 3rd in the LBL with a .429 batting average, was 2 for 2 with 2 singles and a walk, while adding 2 RBI. Takamasa Oki nailed down his 7th save. Losses have been rare for the Mustangs, who are now 13-5.
The Cyclones got a big at-bat from left fielder Wes Coren. For the game, Coren was 1-4. In the top of the fifth, with the bases loaded, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 18th hit of the season gave Coney Island a 1-0 lead.
"Baseball is about momentum," said Coren, "and we feel we've got it in our favor after that win."
