Hot Start Continues for Mustangs
|
New Orleans designated hitter Abraham Merez had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Merez was 2-5 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once, even as San Angelo beat the Jedi Knights, 6-5. Merez was named the player of the game despite the loss. Gabriel Mullin got the win, improving to 1-0. He worked 5 innings, giving up 4 runs on 6 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 2. Jim Padjen was credited with the save for San Angelo, his 1st of the season.
Kyung-hwan Jun had a big 2-run single for the Mustangs in the bottom of the fourth inning. With San Angelo trailing 4-3 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from Jonathan Pickard and stroked the single to left. It was his 5th hit of the season, and more importantly, it put the Mustangs ahead, 5-4.
"We'll relax tonight and get back after it tomorrow," Jun said after the game.
The Mustangs, now 11-2, have been on fire in the early going.
