Capone Lifts Black Squirrels to 12-7 Win
|
The Tree City Black Squirrels beat the Eugene Emeralds, 12-7, at Prefontaine Park. Cole Capone was recognized as player of the game for his performance. He was 4-5 with a home run and 2 doubles. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. The 22-year old right fielder was a menace to Eugene all day. Joel Applegate was the winner. Over 5 innings, he allowed 6 runs on 8 hits, with 2 walks and 5 strikeouts. The save was credited to Ryan Vandervelde, his 1st.
Travis Hickey, who is tied for 7th in the DML in triples with 1, aided the Tree City cause with a 2-run single in the top of the eighth. For the game, the second baseman went 2 for 5 with a double, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3.
"We put it together today and came out with the win," Capone said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
The Black Squirrels, now 8-4, have played some good baseball in the early going.
