Littleworth Slugs Emeralds to 4-2 Win
|
The Eugene Emeralds beat the Bel Air Princes, 4-2, at Philip Banks Field. The Emeralds got a fine performance from third baseman Oscar Littleworth, who captured player of the game honors. He hit 2 home runs. Elias Ortiz picked up the win with 6 innings of work. He allowed 2 earned runs on 4 hits, while walking 6 and striking out 5. On the season, he is now 1-1. Eugene, now 2-7, is off to a slow start.
Littleworth had a big at-bat with the bases empty in the top of the fifth inning, when he hit a solo home run. The Emeralds went on to win.
"I'm proud of the boys for pulling through," said Emeralds manager Ricardo Martínez. "The wins don't come easy for this team, but everyone's got an extra jump in their step after a game like this."
