The Tree City Black Squirrels defeated the Houston Sting, 4-2. Earning player of the game honors was second baseman Travis Hickey, who went 2 for 2 with a double and 2 walks, while scoring 2 runs. Tree City, now 5-3, has played well in the early going.
Had Cole Capone not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Capone hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Black Squirrels.
"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Hickey. "And not try to do too much."
