Cyclones Topple River Chiefs with Late Rally
|
Coney Island overcame a superlative game from Lorenzo Chavez to beat Chippewa, 2-1. The Chippewa pitcher took player of the game honors in a losing cause. He threw 8 innings of 4-hit ball. Coney Island reliever Ramón García picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Lorenzo Chavez was saddled with the loss. Takamasa Oki earned save number 2.
The Cyclones got a big at-bat from left fielder Bill King. For the game, King went 2 for 4 with 2 singles. In the bottom of the eighth, with a runner on 3rd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 6th hit of the season gave Coney Island a 2-1 lead.
"If you ever get this game figured out," said Chippewa manager Eric Rice, "let me know."
Losses have been few and far between for the River Chiefs so far this season. Their record drops to 2-1.
