Beavers Beat Bombers in 10
|
South Carolina got a terrific performance from pitcher Ange Schmit, but it wasn't enough to beat the Portland Beavers. Portland won the Waterfront Park contest, 4-2. Schmit was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 8 innings of 5-hit ball. The Beavers bumped their record to 25-25 with this latest triumph.
Portland won the game in the bottom of the tenth inning. With one out and John Christensen on the mound for South Carolina, center fielder Phil Kinch hit a dramatic 2-run home run, bringing Beavers fans to their feet.
"This level of focus will win us a lot of ballgames," Kinch said after the game.
