Princes Hope Opening Day Win Bodes Well for Season
|
Fans of the Bel Air Princes who packed the stands for the home opener were rewarded with a Bel Air win over the visiting Tree City Black Squirrels, 4-1. Ken Stein started for the home team against Carlos Vela. Carlos Vela earned the coveted player of the game honors. The win was Enrique Santiago's in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Chris Long took the loss for Tree City. The save went to Shayne Cluff, his 1st this season.
Wayne Steiert drew 1 walk for Bel Air. The 22-year old right fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the seventh. With no one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring walk off Chris Long. It was his 1st walk of the season.
"I felt we were ready to go," said Bel Air manager Leland Austin. "Our pregame was pretty good."
